Car

To reach Basata from Cairo, take the Cairo / Suez Road (Highway 33) headed east, cross under the Suez Canal through the Ahmed Hamdi tunnel and take a left onto Nikhal Highway, continue straight until you reach the Taba checkpoint, then make a right onto the coastal Highway headed towards Nuweiba. It is approximately 32 km to Basata. A large blue sign with Basata written in yellow will be on your right. All signs are well marked and the road is in good condition.

Bus

If you are traveling by bus from Cairo, the East Delta Bus Co. is your only option. Buses to Sinai leave from the Sinai terminal in Abbassiya (02 23421699) at 6:30 am, 11:00 pm, from the terminal in Tourguman (02 25742814) at 6:00 am and 11:30 pm. Tickets are purchased with Nuweiba (069 3520371) as your destination. The journey takes approximately 8 hrs. and includes a one hour rest stop in Nikhal. A one-way ticket costs LE 65 for residents and Egyptian nationals and LE 75 for foreigners. Make sure to tell the bus driver to let you off at Basata.

East Delta Buses from Basata to Cairo leave at 9:30 am, and 3:30 pm. You should be on the road ten minutes prior to departure time and you can purchase your ticket from the driver.  

There are a few things to keep in mind when traveling by bus to and from Sinai. It is advisable to bring a sweater as the air-conditioner brings the temperature down to frosty levels. Throughout the journey, a video plays at a ridiculous volume making earplugs advisable. In addition, there is no food served on the bus so bring your own.
